Qian YE

Dr. Qian Ye is a part-time Project Scientist in CCB. He divides his time between CCB, the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS), and the China Meteorological Administration.

 

Conferences and Workshops

Qian attended the conference organized by CCB in Bangkok, Thailand, in March 2006, "Prototype Training Workshop for Educators on the Effects of Climate Change on Seasonality and Environmental Hazards in Southeast Asia." He acted as a member of the Organizing Team for a workshop held in Munich, Germany in May 2006, presenting a paper on "Factor analysis of disaster losses: China case study."

He was organizer and chairman for the First Workshop of the Social and Economic Impact Assessment Project for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Forecast Demonstration Project, held 25-27 August 2006 in Tanggu, China.

 

Research Activities

Qian is the Lead Scientist on a project for the Chinese Association of Science and Technology studying the application of insurance and reinsurance in international climate change negotiations in 2006.

He is also instrumental in organizing the initial negotations with the newly created Lanzhou Center for Creeping Environmental Problems in Lanzhou, China, and a new Center to be launched in FY2007 on the interactions among ecosystems, society, and future development in northeastern Asia, the Heilongjiang Center for Marginal Land Affairs. Qian is also acting as the Principal Investigator for the Beijing 2008 Olympics Forecasting Demonstration Program and the Social and Economic Impact Assessment Study for the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. Qian is acting as the Principal Investigator for the China Meteorological Administration of a study on the "Impacts of Climate Change on Arid and Semi-Arid Areas." Qian also interviewed Susan Solomon and Michael Glantz as a science journalist representing China Weather TV for its series on Climate Change in July 2006.

Qian was interviewed by the journal Science about the South-to-North Water Transfer Project on 25 August 2006. He also gave lectures in Xinjiang Province and Heilongjiang Province about Climate Affairs.
