| Dr. Qian YE in China during negotiations regarding the establishment of new CCB/China Meteorological Service centers in Harbin (July 2007). |
Dr. Qian Ye is a part-time Project Scientist in CCB. He divides his time between CCB, the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS), and the China Meteorological Administration.
Conferences and Workshops:
Qian attended several Chinese national and international conferences in 2007, which covered a broad spectrum of his research interests, from international climate change negotiations to promoting multidisciplinary research, training and education programs in China and the international community. (See the list below.) He is also conducting a case study to evaluate the value of weather information for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Research Activities for FY07 and FY08:
Qian was recently involved with a three-year national core project sponsored by the Ministry of Sciences and Technology in China on “Integrated Risk Analysis in the Context of Global Environmental Change” with a funding of 180K RMB. He is also the lead scientist for the 2-year research project on the Beijing 2008 Olympics weather service with a funding of 800K RMB.
After helping to create two “Climate Affairs” research centers in Lanzhou and Urmuqi, China, with Dr. Glantz and Dr. Wei Gao of Colorado State University, Qian has successfully developed other two centers, i.e., the Marginal Land Affairs Program in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, and the Coastal Urban Affairs Program at East China Normal University, Shanghai, China. During FY08, he will continue to assist these four centers to develop.
Recently, Qian was invited by the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP) international committee to be one of ten members in the newly developed IHDP core project, called Risk Governance.
He was interviewed by the journal Science about the South-to-North Water Transfer Project on September 12, 2007. He also gave lectures in Gansu, Yunnan, Xinjiang, and Heilongjiang Province about Climate Affairs.
