Improve Understanding of the Atmosphere, the Earth system, and the Sun

The interface between atmospheric processes and human well-being is mediated through a multifaceted array of natural and human systems. To ensure a resilient society, one which is prepared to cope with and mitigate against climate, water and weather uncertainties, research is required to understand the complexities of this interface and its associated interactions and feedbacks.

Research within SERE examines: risk and propagation of disease; vulnerabilities and response to the dynamics of climate, water and weather changes within cities; consequences and mitigation of ocean acidification; and markers for climate change as evidenced by coral bleaching. Research in these areas has implications for tourism and coastal communities worldwide; health and life of people and ecosystems and their inhabitants; and scenarios detailing the plausibility of continued increases in greenhouse gases, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Goal 1: Improve understanding of the atmosphere, the Earth system, and the Sun

Priority 2: Investigating the Interactions of the Atmosphere, the Broader Earth System, and Human Society

Priority 4: Developing Community Models
