Policy Planning and Decision Making Involving Climate Change and Variability
Sept. 11 – 22, 2006
Boulder Colorado
The Colloquium's Overall Objective
The Colloquium will introduce participants to the use of climate information in decision making, learning from experts in the physical, social and policy arenas from the
Americas. Over a two week period, the colloquium will address issues of measurement, data,
statistics, synthesis and modelling on the science side and of communication, negotiation and
implementation on the policy interface. The colloquium will present a number of case studies
from different countries and regions of the Americas, in which the links between climate stresses,
policy responses and governance are explored. The policy process will be examined under different
modes of governance and legislations in the local, national and international context with examples
from different parts of the Americas. Participants will participate in lectures, panel discussions,
have opportunities to present their own work and interests, and will participate in two hands-on
workshops, on uncertainty and statistical methods for climate analysis and on decision support
systems for water resource management.
